How to cite IBM Micromedex using APA (7th ed.)

The following recommendations for citing IBM Micromedex using the 7th edition of APA style treat Micromedex as a database with proprietary content. This is similar to the database UpToDate (See Example 14 on page 319 of the Manual; See also https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/references/database-information Links to an external site.). In addition, the publisher's guidelines on how to reference their databases (http://bit.ly/2OnBCJf Links to an external site.) are also incorporated as appropriate.
- Author: Entries in Micromedex do not have individual authors. I recommend using IBM Watson Health as the group author/publisher.
- Date: "Last Modified" date can be found in the References section or the printer version of each drug information page. Because the last modified date is equivalent to the last updated date, I recommend using the specific date in the reference (See 9.15 on page 290 of the Manual). In the drug interactions result page, because a copyright year is provided at the end of the document in addition to the copyright notice for the entire system, I recommend using the the copyright year for the date.
- Title: I recommend using the drug name as the main title and the specific section as subtitle.
-
Source:
- ) Proprietary database name: Use the individual database name in italics followed by [Electronic Version] .
- ) Retrieval date: Because these databases are meant to be updated over time and don't have archived versions, provide a retrieval date.
- ) URL of the source: Because access require a subscription and the direct URL to the specific document will not resolve for everyone, use the database homepage/login page URL, which is https://www.micromedexsolutions.com Links to an external site.
