About the Test

Our entrance test is designed to test your language proficiency skills in both English and Spanish. Interpreters need to have strong listening and speaking skills in both languages. We don't, however, expect you to be perfect.

The test is closed-book. That means that you will not be able to use any outside resources, such as dictionaries or translation apps. Any student who attempts to use outside resources on the test will receive a zero.

How does it work?

The entire test is recorded with a program called Panopto. This program will record your screen, as well as video and audio from the webcam. Most of your answers for the test will be graded based on the audio recording of the test! The reviewers listen to your recorded spoken answers to assess your language skills. Some parts of the test use traditional multiple-choice questions.

This orientation course has another module called "Mini-Entrance Test" where you can read the instructions for each specific part of the test, and practice navigating through the quizzes.

Test Results

Your test will be reviewed by our Spanish Medical Interpreting faculty within two weeks. If you have passed the test, you will receive a letter of acceptance into the program by email. This email will contain crucial information about your next steps.

If your proficiency in one or both languages didn't meet the program requirement, you will receive a letter via email letting your know which language needs to be strengthened, along with information about how to improve your proficiency. If you don't pass, you can always work on your language skills and re-apply the following year!
